Below are a few of the methods and approaches that may be utilized in sessions to help work towards established goals. Regardless of the approach we take during therapy, we will always take things at your pace. I will answer your questions fully and empower you by involving you in the entire process.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy is a form of psychotherapy designed to decrease negative feelings and negative beliefs about yourself that are associated with memories of traumatic events.

Negative life experiences can oppose your brain's natural ability to process experiences. Depending on the quality of the negative experience, your strengths and the developmental stages in which the event(s) occurred, and the support available to you at the time of the event, some experiences are more challenging to overcome. Using EMDR, I will help you fully process negative memories and sort out the emotions and beliefs attached to those memories, helping you to heal and move beyond your trauma.  Ultimately, EMDR leads to a reduction of suffering and distressing symptoms and to the development of new coping skills. After successful treatment with EMDR, distress is decreased, negative beliefs are reformulated, and the nervous system is regulated.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is an approach that integrates body sensation and movement with traditional talk therapy to help heal trauma.  Trauma itself can have an overwhelming effect on the body and can present as somatic symptoms. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy integrates findings from neuroscience to transform traumatic memories into resources and strengths for clients. These resources help my clients to self-regulate and move out of trauma responses. I use this type of therapy to treat developmental trauma from childhood, as well as acute trauma like sexual abuse, violence, or verbal abuse.

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a therapy that focuses on providing people with skills to deal with painful emotions, change unhealthy or ineffective behaviors, and navigate relationships. The goal is to not only learn how to survive and cope, but to also discover a life worth living. DBT is based on the idea that both acceptance and change are needed. DBT also comes in multiple phases, so it’s not just about becoming more “in control”. We’ll also work through any history of trauma as well as painful life situations you’re facing with the goal of improving your overall well being.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an approach which emphasizes the importance and relationship between our thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Using CBT, I will help you identify harmful beliefs and thoughts that do not align with reality and employ strategies to challenge and overcome them. I use CBT with all ages and numerous presenting conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, and body dysmorphia.
